My intention today was to talk a little about the next solar eclipse, which will occur at 29 Virgo this weekend, on Sunday, September 21.
I have recorded a Detailed podcast about the solar eclipse in Virgowhich includes tips for working with this eclipse for each of the 12 different Ascendant signs. You can watch the podcast here or wherever you listen to podcasts.
But as I write, I can’t help but notice the date: September 18. That is an important milestone for me personally, as it was on this date 17 years ago that I first landed at the Toronto airport, to join Peter and begin my life in Canada.
Meeting Pedro
We met just a few months earlier, at the UAC astrology conference in Denver. Since then, I had come to visit Sydney and we had met (we jokingly say for our third date) in Maui for a week-long trip. (Well, it was only the third time we met! 😊)
That was during the Beijing Olympics, and we watched some of the events in Maui together, including the 8-man rowing, where Australia didn’t do as well as expected and Canada won.
And then, just a few weeks later, I was on a plane, suitcases in tow, to ‘Look what would happen!‘if I moved countries and we explored what being in the same city could mean for our blossoming relationship.
Move to Canada
Looking back, it sounds absolutely wild, as some of life’s greatest experiences can be. We hadn’t even known each other for six months.
Yet there I was, strolling through customs, getting my work visa stamped (and magically extended from the standard two years to three years) and there was Peter, waiting to greet me.
I’d love to say we walked out of the airport together and never looked back, but because real life is complicated, there were definitely some moments in those first few months where I struggled. It was a harsh winter, it was incredibly cold, the amount of snow was incredible and I felt a little lonely.
Life was messy
I was happy being with Peter, but starting my career almost from scratch was intense and the long winter nights were very different to what I was used to. At one point that winter, as I watched trucks loaded with snow leave the neighborhood (to help keep the roads clear), I wondered if I had landed on the moon. It was completely foreign to this girl who had spent her early years in Fiji and grown up in Sydney.
And while that was a season of exploring the unknown, Peter and I continued walking together. And since we’ve been married for 12 years now, I’d say it worked out well.
Looking back + Appreciating the present
I could never have imagined life now from the perspective of then.
That young woman’s wildest dreams, to start a new life in a place that was so different from anything she had ever known, have been exceeded beyond all expectations, personally and professionally.
Repetition of the Virgo and Pisces eclipse cycles, 2006 – 2008 to 2024 – 2026
When I think back to that time, I also remember that it was late 2006, 2007, and early 2008 when the nodes were where they are now: the North Node was in Pisces and the South Node was in Virgo.
The eclipses back then are like the eclipse season we are in now.
So while that was my personal walk down memory lane, inspired by these current eclipses, I invite you to remember the person you were and the types of changes you made in 2007 or 2008.
How much have you changed, grown and evolved since then?
The echoes of what arose then are transmitted among the swirling shadows of today’s eclipses.
Longings, dreams and shadows
Is there any wish from then that you have yet to fulfill?
(I really wanted to leave Sydney then, move somewhere warmer. That joke was totally on me, but that longing for more salt water lingers inside me.)
Are there any dreams from then on that you have fulfilled and then some?
Regardless of all the wonderful professional opportunities that have come my way since moving, I am most proud of my marriage and the strong partnership Peter and I have built through raising our children, managing families in two different countries, sorting through life, career, health, and everything that comes with sharing a life with another wonderful, wild, inspiring, messy human being.
Let go to grow
As this solar eclipse in Virgo is fueled by the South Node to inspire liberation and cleansing, knowing what dream you most long for could help you let go of what might be getting in the way.
I could never have imagined exactly where I am now, but I was willing to leave what I knew behind to try something different. Under this South Node eclipse, what are you willing to let go?
