Starting soon, Neato robovac owners will no longer be able to control their devices via the app. Neato Robotics, which closed in 2023 due to declining sales, notified its customers that “cloud services will be phased out during the fourth quarter of 2025,” according to an email obtained by The edge.
While Neato’s parent company, Vorwerk Group, initially said cloud support would continue for at least five years after its closure, the email now says that “cybersecurity standards, compliance obligations and regulations have advanced such that it is no longer possible to securely and sustainably operate these legacy systems.” This doesn’t mean existing Neato products will be completely locked (there’s still the option to start them manually by pressing a button), but they won’t offer all the smart home conveniences you’d expect from a robovac that costs hundreds of dollars. Without using the app, customers will not be able to set cleaning schedules, start vacuums remotely, or assign no-go zones.
