Notre Dame Releases Hockey Leprechaun Logo, Puts It on New Alternate Sweater – SportsLogos.Net News

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish released their second sport-specific leprechaun logo and immediately put it on a new jersey for the upcoming season.

After the release of his Soccer leprechaun logo In August, the South Bend, Indiana-based university unveiled its new Hockey Leprechaun branding on Thursday, Oct. 16, ahead of the men’s team’s home opener.

Designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media with input from the school’s hockey program, the Hockey Leprechaun is “inspired by the photography, fundamentals, and shooting and skating styles of current and former student-athletes.”

The logo release was quickly followed the next day with the release of new alternate jerseys with the new branding on the front. Made by Under Armour, the jersey features a white base and wide navy stripes around the waist and sleeves, containing a narrower green stripe and tonal Celtic knot pattern.

Green clovers appear on both shoulders. The names on the back and numbers on the sleeves are navy blue, while the numbers on the back are navy blue with white and green shadows. The look is completed with Notre Dame’s signature metallic gold helmets.

Notre Dame’s regular home and away sweaters for 2025-26 feature the school’s name written on the front, with navy, gold and white stripes on the waist and sleeves and gold laces on the neck. The home jersey has a white base while the away jersey is navy blue.

Sport-specific leprechaun logos are designated as “secondary spirit marks” and will not replace the goblin in fighting position in the school’s athletics logo portfolio. The Notre Dame athletics department intends to implement more sports-specific logos for varsity teams during the 2025-26 season and in future years.

The Fighting Irish Leprechaun logo first appeared on the cover of the November 20, 1964 issue of Timewith first-year Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian. The image developed for the cover was eventually designed into the logo that Irish athletics fans across the country are used to seeing on clothing, memorabilia and more. …Its long history represents the tenacious spirit of the Irish fighters and their determination.
