The Legacy Award winner also played “Atlantic City” and “Land of Hope and Dreams” during a three-song acoustic set.
Bruce Springsteen performed a three-song acoustic set, including a rare rendition of “Streets of Philadelphia,” Saturday at the Academy Museum Gala, where the E Street rocker received the Legacy Award.
Taking the stage at the Academy Museum, Springsteen opened with the song that won him the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1995 and the Grammy for Song of the Year. With the upcoming arrivals of free me from nothing and a new five-album reissue, Springsteen also performed Nebraskaof “Atlantic City” before closing the mini-set with “Land of Hope and Dreams.”
The performance of “Streets of Philadelphia” marked the first time in more than a dozen years that Springsteen sang the Philadelphia single outside of Philadelphia: While the sparsely played song was performed at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park in August 2024, it had not been played outside of City of Brotherly Love since a November 2012 concert in Louisville, Kentucky.
Springsteen also received the Academy Museum’s Legacy Award, which “honors an artist whose work has inspired generations of storytellers and profoundly influenced our culture.”
Other honorees at this year’s gala were Penélope Cruz, Walter Salles and SNLBowen Yang, who missed the taping of the Sabrina Carpenter-hosted episode in order to attend Saturday night’s event.
