EYE IN THE SKY: MERCURY RETROGRADE IN SCORPIO/LIBRA – TRANSFORMATION AND REBALANCING November 9-29, 2025
Everyone cringes at the thought of Mercury retrograde, but it’s not bad for everyone and it gets a lot of bad press. This November’s retrograde is particularly intense as Mercury retrogrades to 12 degrees Scorpio on November 9 and will retrograde back into Libra on November 23 before going direct to 26 degrees Libra on November 29. Mercury will briefly conjunct Mars on November 12 at 11 degrees Scorpio in Anuradha nakshatra, so be very careful while driving on that day and avoid arguments.
Mercury Retrograde Basics
Remember with any Mercury retrograde: back up your computers NOW (before November 9), be redundant in communications, don’t assume your emails and texts have been received, and be patient when technology fails. Mercury is like the Greek god Hermes: he is the trickster who wants you to laugh when things go wrong. Find the humor in the chaos or you’ll get really nervous!
If you were born with Mercury retrograde, you are more oriented toward the right side of the brain and have greater spatial awareness and pattern recognition. You may feel MORE intuitive during this transit rather than less capable. It will be interesting to see if during Mercury retrograde you need to be more intuitive than logical.
Impacts of the ascending sign
Mercury retrograde affects each ascending sign differently depending on the house property:
- More challenging: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces Ascendants (Mercury rules difficult houses)
- Beneficial: Gemini and Virgo risings actually become physically stronger during Mercury retrograde, although further inward
- Mixed results: Taurus (Mercury rules 2nd and 5th places: finances and creativity are affected, but ultimately beneficial)
The journey through the depths of Scorpio (November 9-23)
The first phase has Mercury retrograde through Scorpio, the natural eighth house of transformation. Mercury in Scorpio retrograde brings:
- Deep psychological perceptions that emerge from the subconscious.
- Discovering hidden information from the past
- Investigation and detective work bears fruit
- Review of Shared Finances and Joint Ventures
- Secrets from the past that come to light
- Reviewing intimacy and trust issues
The intensity of Scorpio during the retrograde phase can be overwhelming, but it is excellent for investigating and getting to the root of problems. The retrograde occurs in Anuradha nakshatra (Scorpio 3.20-16.40), ruled by Saturn and connected with Mithras, the God of Light and divine friendship. This adds a spiritual dimension: reconnecting with old friends and spiritual communities during this time.
Mercury enters Libra: finding balance (November 23-29)
When Mercury retrogrades into Libra on November 23, the energy completely changes:
- Reconsider relationships and partnerships
- Review contracts and agreements (but don’t sign new ones!)
- Rebalance communication styles
- Art projects from the past resurface
- Second chances in negotiations
- Finding diplomatic solutions to problems that arose in Scorpio
The Station Direct in Vishakha (November 29)
Mercury stations are heading at 26 degrees Libra in Vishakha nakshatra. Vishakha means “forked one” or “two-branched”, and represents focused determination but also the challenge of choosing between paths. Seasonal days are always powerful: Mercury seems to stop in the sky. This may seem like mental molasses. Please be very patient from November 28 to 30. Don’t force important decisions during the season.
Mercury returns to Scorpio Direct (December 6-28)
After going direct, Mercury re-enters Scorpio on December 6 and stays until December 28. This is your opportunity to move forward with the knowledge gained during the retrograde period. Everything that came up for review is now moving toward resolution, but you’re approaching these Scorpio issues with diplomatic skills acquired during Mercury’s time in Libra.
Mercury Combustion (December 27)
Mercury combusts near the Sun in Sagittarius on December 27, creating a busy, agitated and frustrated mind. For Gemini and Virgo, this can enhance presence and create what Western astrologers call “cazimi”: good for accounting, but you have to be careful with business ethics.
Saturn in Pisces: spiritual backdrop
With Saturn transiting Pisces throughout this period, there is additional spiritual depth. Saturn in Pisces asks us to structure spiritual practices as we navigate emotional waters. Since Anuradha is ruled by Saturn, this retrograde has a karmic quality: old communication debts need to be settled.

- Shoulder support: Resolve mental confusion
- Meditation: Essential during seasonal days
- Wear emerald or green on Wednesdays (Gemini and Virgos)
- Chant “Om Budhaya Namaha” 108 times on Wednesday mornings.
The hidden blessings
Mercury retrograde is excellent for:
- Complete unfinished projects
- Reconnect with old friends
- Deep investigation (especially in Scorpio)
- Find lost objects
- Inner reflection and meditation.
Remember: Mercury retrograde is about RE-doing, RE-seeing, RE-seeing. It is not to move forward with new endeavors but to complete what is underway.
Be patient, back up your data, check communications, and find humor when technology rebels. These 20 days may seem like an eternity, but this too shall pass!
