The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik He will captain Team India in the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament, scheduled from November 7 to 9 at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, Mong Kok, Hong Kong.
This year’s edition promises exciting action in one of cricket’s most entertaining short formats, as teams from around the world – including Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan – compete in the three-day spectacle.
Dinesh Karthik to lead India in Hong Kong Sixes 2025
Dinesh Karthik, who retired from IPL last season, but remains active in the global franchise T20 leagues, expressed his honor and excitement at leading the national team in a tournament that combines fun, style and fierce competition.
“It is an absolute honor to lead India in the Hong Kong Sixes. This format brings out the best in cricket’s entertainment and skill. We have a balanced team that can adapt quickly to high-intensity conditions.” Karthik said in an official statement.
His leadership and finishing ability will be key in guiding a team that features a mix of experienced campaigners and domestic stalwarts, ready to take on some of the biggest names in international sixes cricket.
India is drawn in Group C along with Pakistan and Kuwait
In the group stage, India find themselves in Group C where they will face arch-rivals Pakistan and Kuwait in what promises to be a series of electrifying encounters.
Each match will consist of six overs per side, with six players per team on the field. Each bowler delivers one over, except the wicketkeeper and another bowler, who can bowl two overs each. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, followed by single-match playoffs to determine the champion.
Teams that fail to advance to the main knockout bracket will compete in bowl and plate matches, ensuring each team gains valuable match exposure.
A balanced and experienced Indian team
The Indian team announced for the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 has a perfect blend of experience, skill and versatility.
Apart from Karthik, the team has former India internationals. Robin Uthappa and Stuart Binnyboth known for their explosive batting and adaptability in shorter formats. Abhimanyu Mithun and Nadeem Shahbaz brings depth and control to bowling, while Priyank Panchal and Bharat Chipli strengthen the batting lineup with consistency and batting power.
