Suárez banned for one game for kicking Nashville defender Najar

Luis Suárez received a one-match suspension for Inter Miami’s final MLS first-round playoff game against Nashville SC, following a post-match review of an incident involving defender Andy Najar.

Suárez’s suspension was the result of an investigation by the MLS Disciplinary Committee, which found that the Uruguayan made a careless, off-ball kick on Najar in the second half of Game 2 of the series at Geodis Park on November 1.

Miami lost that game 2-1 after winning the first, allowing Nashville to level the series and force a third and final game, which will take place on November 8 at Chase Stadium.

“The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suárez for one match and fined Suárez an undisclosed amount under Parameter 3 of the Disciplinary Committee for violent conduct in the 71st minute of Inter Miami’s match against Nashville SC on November 1,” read a statement from the MLS Disciplinary Committee.

“Suarez will serve his one-game suspension on Nov. 8 during Miami’s game against Nashville SC.”

At the time of the incident, referee Allen Chapman did not caution Suarez in any way, but MLS regulations allow for post-match disciplinary action at the discretion of the committee.

This is Suarez’s second MLS suspension of the year, following a three-game ban received for spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders backroom staff in the Leagues Cup final in August.

Miami will be without Suarez for the final game of the series, where they will fight for a chance to face the Columbus Crew or FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
