Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has long had a reputation as one of the most feisty characters in the music business: he’s never afraid to speak his mind and never backs down from a confrontation.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, however, got a rare glimpse of what the “Wonderwall” singer is like behind closed doors, and it’s a far cry from his tough reputation.
Guardiola attended Oasis’ homecoming concert at Heaton Park earlier this year (the band’s first home show since 2009) with his daughter Maria. There he not only soaked up the atmosphere and sang the hits, but also had the opportunity to meet the Gallagher brothers, both well-known Manchester City fans, and their families.
Although he was familiar with Noel Gallagher, who often attends games at the Etihad, it was the first time Guardiola had met Liam, and he has now spoken openly about the experience.
“It’s the first time I’ve met Liam,” she said. (through The mirror). “I’ve been to Noel many times but I’d never met Liam and I met him before the gig and he was so nice.”

Of the concert itself, Guardiola could not have been more complimentary, describing Oasis as “the best rock band of the last 50 years” and taking the opportunity to compare them to his own City.
“I don’t know how many countries sold out, but that tells you how good they have been,” he said. “When (people) say this team will be one of the best, I always say, ‘Ask me after 25 years.’ So if people are still talking about that team, it was a good team.”
He added: “It’s like Oasis, isn’t it? They come back and sell out all over the world, it’s because they’re good. Otherwise they don’t sell out.”
It seems even the greatest rock legends have a softer side.
