Juventus were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Sporting CP at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday.
Having failed to win any of their first four Champions League games, the pressure was on the hosts, who fell behind after 12 minutes when Maxi Araujo drilled a precise shot past Michele Di Gregorio.
Luciano Spalletti’s side grew into the contest, forcing Rui Silva into a couple of superb saves when Dusan Vlahovic first tested him with a close-range header, before deflecting a shot into the far corner.
Juve finally equalized just after the half-hour mark, when Khephren Thuram galloped forward before catching Vlahovic in the center of the box, with the striker beating Silva.
There was very little goalmouth action during the second half, and neither team threatened to find a winner until Jonathan David met Pierre Kalulu’s cross in stoppage time, although Silva was well placed to make another stellar save from his header.
The result leaves Juventus in 23rd position in the Champions League standings with three points, one above the qualification line, while Sporting is in tenth place with seven points.
