Liverpool and Newcastle United played out a Premier League thriller on Monday night, with the Reds claiming a 3-2 victory thanks to a 100th-minute winner from teenage debutant Rio Ngumoha.
The 16-year-old’s spectacular goal capped a chaotic night at St James’ Park, where Newcastle had come back from two goals down before Ngumoha stole the headlines with a fairytale finish.
And as the away end broke out, one man who enjoyed it just as much was former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Covering the game as an expert for Sky Sports Monday night footballCarragher’s reaction went viral after the broadcaster shared footage of him getting lost in the moment. Running in circles around the studio and even jumping in the air, the Reds legend could barely contain his excitement.

“My God! My God! Wow! How lucky, you lucky red men!” he exclaimed. “What’s going on?! Is this one of the best games in Premier League history?”
Carragher later reposted the clip for X himself, simply adding: “What a game.”
Still, the Sky Sports expert did not let the adrenaline cloud his judgment. Reflecting after the dust settled, Carragher admitted Liverpool were lucky to come away with three points.
“I think what we’ve seen tonight is probably one of the worst performances by a winning team and one of the best by a losing team.” he said. “Liverpool won’t care at the moment, they will be absolutely ecstatic, but Eddie Howe’s men tonight were absolutely exceptional.”
For Ngumoha, however, it was a night that will live long in the memory and, if his debut is anything to go by, Liverpool fans may have just witnessed the arrival of their next star.
