Domingo returns as Sabrina Carpenter parodies Taylor Swift song

Sunday is back!

During the cold opening of Saturday night liveOn the October 18 episode, Marcello Hernández reprized his recurring role as Domingo in a musical alongside host and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter.

In the six-minute sketch, titled “Sunday Cold Open,” Chloe Fineman’s character Kelsey throws a birthday party for her husband Matthew (played by Andrew Dismukes). To celebrate, she recruits her team of girls to perform a surprise musical number, complete with modern pop parodies, about a recent trip to Nashville to buy her gift.

Things quickly fall apart when Kelsey’s friends, played by Carpenter, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla and Veronika Slowikowska, launch into parodies of Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” and Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” revealing that Kelsey spent a night with Domingo during the trip.

Domingo de Hernández then makes a dramatic entrance to profess his love for Kelsey, with Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks earlier this summer.

Sunday debuted in October 2024 episode hosted by Ariana Grande, where Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” was featured in a sketch revealing that Kelsey had cheated on her fiancé with the character. He returned in a sequel with Charli XCX parodying “Hot to Go!” by Chappell Roan. and again during SNL50with Carpenter spoofing “Defying Gravity” Wicked.

Carpenter appeared throughout Saturday’s episode in multiple sketches and also performed two of her songs. Man’s best friend Album: “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son.”

SNL will take a brief hiatus and return Nov. 1 with host Miles Teller and musical guest Brandi Carlile. Upcoming episodes include Nikki Glaser with Sombr on November 8 and Glen Powell hosting for the first time on November 15, joined by musical guest Olivia Dean.
