The captain scored a magnificent 101 off 98 balls, studded with 11 boundaries and a six, keeping South Africa’s hopes alive. He found brief support from British tazmin (23) and Sune Luus (25) but the Indian bowlers struck at regular intervals to apply pressure.
The teaser came from a surprise source: Shafali Verma. The young all-rounder, fresh from her batting heroics, turned the game around with the ball by dismissing Luus and Marianne Kapp in quick succession. His one-two punch rocked the Proteas, shifting the momentum decisively towards India.
